Experience sustainability at Royal Perth Yacht Club as we navigate towards a brighter future. Our commitment to eco-conscious practices is inspired by the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The following are some of the UN Sustainability Goals we are targeting:

Australian Sailing WA Sustainability Award

We are immensely proud and honored to have been awarded the 2023 WA Australian Sailing Sustainability Award. This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to environmentally responsible practices in the world of sailing, and it inspires us to continue our efforts in preserving and protecting our precious marine ecosystems for future generations to enjoy.

Goal 3: Good health and Well-Being

What we do:

  • Encourage staff to keep up to date on all vaccines.
  • Have covid-19 measures in place in case of another pandemic
  • Hand sanitiser places around the club and key touch point frequently cleaned.
  • Promote Mental Health Awareness
    • Host wellness events with keynote speakers and workshops that members can then relay into their everyday lives

Goal 6: Clean water and Sanitation

What we do:

  • Accredited Clean Marina
  • Accredited Fish Friendly Marina
  • We sponsor a Fishing Line Bin in conjunction with Swan River Sailing
  • No plastic bags
  • No plastic straws
  • Rainwater collection system
    • Installed under the hardstand and collects rain water from the hardstand building
    • Water is used to wash down the boats.
  • Filtered water station placed around clubhouse for refilling bottles
  • Spill Kits and drip trays on jetty

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean energy

What we do:

  • Battery collection recycling
  • Solar panels placed on the gate house, with the intention of having more put on the main club house

Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth

What we do:

  • Flexible working environment
  • Capacity to work from home
  • Promote diverse and inclusive working environment

Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

What we do:

  • Oil collection recycling
  • Containers for change
  • Environmental training for Staff and Contractors
    • Encourage staff to be more sustainably conscious in and out of the office environment

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

What we do:

  • Bio Cups used for takeaway coffee’s
  • All staff use keep cups/ own mugs
  • We have multiple water refilling machines
  • Specific Glass rubbish bins to ensure correct recycling
  • In the Wind (In house magazine)
    • 40% recycled paper
    • Vegetable Ink used
  • All printing done by Optima Press
    • Green Stamp accreditation
  • Oil collection recycling
  • Containers for change
  • Recycle Toner Cartridges
  • Statements sent via email to reduce paper waste

Goal 13: Climate Action

What we do:

  • Rainwater collection system
    • Installed under the hardstand and collects rain water from the hardstand building
    • Water is used to wash down the boats.

What we do:

  • We sponsor a Fishing Line Bin in conjunction with Swan River Sailing
  • No plastic bags
  • No plastic straws
  • Sustainably sourced Seafood
  • Dolphin Watch partner – Staff Member allocated to Program
  • Accredited Clean Marina
  • Accredited Fish Friendly Marina

Goal 15: Life on land

What we do:

  • Compost
    • We recycle our used coffee grounds, shredded paper, cardboard and kitchen waste.
    • This compost then goes into various garden beds around the Club
  • Chef’s herb garden
  • We are partners with the Swan River Trust
  • We are currently in the process of planting native plant beds
    • These plants consume less food and less water
  • Gardeners restricted with plants and fertilisers according to DBCA recommendations
