The History behind the iconic Regatta
The Governor's Cup is Royal Perth Yacht Club's oldest perpetual trophy and has traditionally been presented to the winning skipper by our patron, the Governor of the day.
The first recorded race for the Governor's Cup was in 1904, when RPYC Members Carter and Arnotts won sailing Waitangi,
This trophy was donated by Governor Bedofrd and is currently proudly displayed in our trophy cabinet.

The most memorable win in Cup History was RPYC Members Horace Rumble's win in 1962.
After 43 years of trying to win, on his beloved Mercedes he finally crossed the finish first.
Rumble later went on to win again in 1968.

Following RFBYC's annointment of their Royal title in 1934, they were invited to participate in the esteemed regatta.
Our most prolific winner of the prestigious regatta was Rotohine who won the Governor's Cup 9 times between 1909 and 1938.
Royal Perth Yacht Club vessel, R20 Galatea owned by the Governor himself raced regularly in the cup.
The Governor's Cup legacy continues between the two Clubs, with the start and finish alternating every year.
Winning the Governor's Cup is an illustrious achievement for any skipper.
